The maloka can be compared to a spiritual hospital where profound energetic and spiritual healing takes place through sessions in each ceremony. This work is performed not only by the healers but also by a multitude of plant spirits invoked by them, including the spirit of ayahuasca. Shamanism with ayahuasca involves a triangular relationship between the healer, the ayahuasca, and the plant spirits. Without the participation of the plant spirits (and the relationship the healer establishes with them), healing cannot address the energetic roots of imbalance, trauma, ill health, and illness. Therefore, it is crucial to prepare with ayahuasca before undertaking a process of spiritual surgery.
